* I keep hearing parents say that it's better for their child to come to auditions "messy" right from the school playground.
+ I disagree! Who wants to see a child with wild hair or dirty clothes on if it wasn't requested! When clients are casting for a children's commercial, of course, they are not looking for a child to look like they just left a wedding; but on the other hand, they are looking for someone who put time and effort into their "look" before they come to an audition. A kid look doesn't have to be sloppy, they could be "intentionally" put together!
* Always write down audition and job information IN THE SAME PLACE!
+ the other day, my daughter's agent called with details for her job with Talbots. I was too lazy to get my audition tracker. Long story longer, I wrote it on a sticky pad.....and lost it! It took me 20 MINUTES OF TEARING UP THE HOUSE TO FIND THE INFORMATION!
+ Save yourself the trouble and write them in a tracker! (coming in May, 2007)
* Always bring your own hair kit for your child
+ If your child has "ethnic hair" or a cowlick that only goes away with a certain product, gently mention it to the make-up artist. many times it is appreciated.
+ My hair kit contains: A squirt bottle, hair doo-dads, a brush and comb that works well on my children's hair; hair conditioner and mousse.
* Keep all of their audition information organized
+ I have a 7 pocket folder that holds the following information:
Sometimes the babysitter has to take my children to auditions, so be prepared enough to hand over the information, better yet have a duplicate folder with duplicate information in it!!!
* Get to know other parents of working children, you never know what they know!
